Privacy policy

This privacy policy describes how Uncommon Works Ltd(“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use the Uncamera app for iPhone (the “App”) and this website.

By using the App or website, you agree to this privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

The short version

  • Your photos, videos, and custom films stay on your device. We never receive them.
  • There is no account. We do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
  • We collect anonymous usage statistics through PostHog so we can see which features people use and fix what breaks.
  • Purchases go through Apple. RevenueCat confirms whether Uncamera Pro is unlocked. We never see your payment details.
  • No advertising, no tracking across other apps, no selling of data, no screen recording.

What stays on your device

Uncamera is a camera. Everything it makes is processed on your iPhone and saved to your own photo library.

  • Photos and videos. Colour grading happens live on the device. Finished captures, and optional RAW negatives, are written to your Photos library in an Uncamera album. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
  • Custom films. Any LUT files you import are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded.
  • Edits. If you apply a film to an existing photo, the work happens on your device and the result is saved to your library.
  • Settings. Your chosen theme, app icon, film, and camera preferences are stored locally.

We do not use your photos or videos to train anything, and we have no way to view them.

Permissions the App asks for

  • Camera. Required to take photos and record video. Without it the App cannot work.
  • Microphone. Optional. Used to record sound with your videos. You can still record silent video without it.
  • Photo library. Used to save your captures and to show your recent Uncamera photos and videos inside the App.

You can change any of these at any time in your iPhone Settings under Privacy & Security. The App does not ask for your location, contacts, calendar, or notifications.

What we do collect

We use one analytics tool, PostHog, hosted in the European Union. It tells us how the App is used in aggregate so we can improve it. The information it receives is:

  • Usage events. Things like a photo being taken, a video being recorded, a built-in film or theme being chosen, a setting being changed, onboarding being completed, the Pro paywall being shown, and a capture failing. Events include details such as which built-in film and finish were used, which camera lens, the format and resolution, whether flash or double exposure was on, and the length of a video clip.
  • App lifecycle. When the App is installed, opened, or updated.
  • Device and app details. The PostHog software attaches standard details such as your iPhone model, iOS version, App version, language, and screen size.
  • Purchase status. Whether Uncamera Pro is active and which plan it is on.
  • An anonymous identifier. A random ID generated on your device when the App first runs. It is not your name, email address, Apple ID, or advertising identifier. It lets us count you once rather than as a new person every time the App opens.

Like any internet request, events reach PostHog with your device’s IP address. PostHog may use it to derive a rough location, such as a country or city. We do not use IP addresses to identify you.

What analytics never include. No photos, videos, or image data of any kind. No names of custom films you import. No name, email address, phone number, or contacts. No precise location. No screen recordings or session replays. No crash reports. No advertising identifier.

Purchases

Uncamera Pro is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles payment, so we never see your card details or billing address. Apple’s privacy policy applies to that transaction.

We use RevenueCat to check whether your purchase is valid and keep Pro unlocked across reinstalls. RevenueCat receives your App Store transaction details, such as the product bought and its renewal dates, together with the same anonymous identifier described above. Using one identifier in both tools lets us understand which parts of the App lead to purchases. It still does not tell us who you are.

How we use this information

  • To understand which films, themes, and features people use, so we can decide what to build next
  • To find and fix problems, such as captures that fail on particular devices
  • To measure whether the purchase flow works and which plans people choose
  • To confirm Pro purchases and restore them when you reinstall the App

We do not use it for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. That is why the App never shows Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt: there is nothing to ask permission for.

Who we share information with

We share information only with the services needed to run the App:

  • PostHog for usage analytics, hosted in the European Union
  • RevenueCat for purchase verification
  • Apple for App Store distribution and payment

Beyond that, we may disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a court order, or if Uncommon Works Ltd is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy would continue to apply to the information transferred.

We do not sell your information, and we never will.

Where information is processed

Analytics data is stored on PostHog’s servers in the European Union. RevenueCat is based in the United States and may process purchase records there. Where information leaves the United Kingdom, we rely on the safeguards available under UK data protection law, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep analytics data for as long as it is useful for understanding the App, and delete or aggregate it once it is not. Purchase records are kept while your Pro access is active and for as long as accounting and tax rules require.

Deleting the App removes the anonymous identifier from your device. If you reinstall, a new one is created and it cannot be linked to the old one, except through Apple’s own purchase history if you restore a Pro purchase.

Your choices and rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to access, correct, delete, or restrict the information we hold about you, and object to how we use it. Because we hold no account details, we may not be able to find information that belongs to you unless you can tell us your anonymous identifier. If you contact us we will explain what we can do.

You can withdraw camera, microphone, and photo library permission at any time in your iPhone Settings. You can also lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or with your local supervisory authority if you are in the European Economic Area.

Security

Your photos and videos never leave your device, so the most important security measure is the one Apple already provides: your iPhone’s passcode and encryption. Information sent to PostHog and RevenueCat travels over encrypted connections, and access to those dashboards is restricted to the people who work on Uncamera.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security. If you believe something is wrong, contact us at support@uncommonworks.ai.

This website

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. It does not ask for any information. The beta link takes you to Apple’s TestFlight, which is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Children

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App changes. We will post the new version here and update the date at the top of the page. If we start collecting something new, we will say so plainly rather than bury it. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
